What is a MANAGING EDITOR?
A managing editor is a professional responsible for overseeing and managing the editorial operations of a media organization. This can include newspapers, magazines, online publications, or publishing houses. The primary role of a managing editor is to supervise the content creation process, ensuring that the publication maintains high editorial standards, meets deadlines, and aligns with the publication's overall objectives.
Key responsibilities of a managing editor may include:
1. Supervising and coordinating the work of editors and other staff members in the editorial department.
2. Setting editorial guidelines and policies, ensuring the publication's voice and tone are consistent.
3. Reviewing and editing articles, stories, or other content for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to the publication's style guide.
4. Assigning and managing writing assignments, ensuring adequate coverage and distribution of workload.
5. Collaborating with other departments, such as design, marketing, and advertising, to ensure a cohesive and engaging final product.
6. Managing budgets and resources for the editorial department.
7. Keeping track of industry trends and competitors to inform strategic decisions and maintain the publication's relevance.
8. Making final decisions on content selection, layout, and design.
9. Handling any legal or ethical issues related to the publication's content.
10. Building and maintaining relationships with outside contributors, freelancers, and industry experts.
Becoming a managing editor typically requires several years of experience in the field of journalism, publishing, or a related industry. Strong editing and writing skills, as well as a deep understanding of the publication's target audience and subject matter, are crucial. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple deadlines and priorities are also essential qualities of a successful managing editor.
With experience and proven expertise, managing editors can progress in their careers to higher positions such as editorial director, editor-in-chief, or even move into executive roles within media organizations.

About Me/This Site
Hi, My name is Amy. I've been designing images for POD (Print-On-Demand) Sites for 14 years as a "side job". I started with CafePress in 2008, and RedBubble in 2022. I've been trying to bring as much as possible over to RedBubble. Shortly after starting with RedBubble, I discovered they were not allowing my designs/products to be index by Google and other search engines. I decided to create this site to try to get my RedBubble products seen by others. Especially those cute stickers!
